Booster Gold television series among the upcoming projects from DC Studios

This one's straight out of left field!

An HBO Max television series centering on Booster Gold, a DC Comics hero, has been confirmed to be part of the brand-new content slate for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

The announcement comes as part of a wider announcement from DC Studios regarding their slate of rebooted upcoming content for the DC Universe continuity.

It’s one of the more peculiar announcements, to be sure; those of you unfamiliar with DC Comics may not recognize the eponymous hero who first appeared in 1986 as the star of the comic line of the same name. Indeed, barring a few appearances on shows such as Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow, the hero hasn’t made much of a splash on the screen.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn remarked on the unique ethos that Booster Gold brings to the canon, eventually describing him as the superhuman embodiment of imposter syndrome, complete with all the over-compensatory technology you could imagine.

It’s about a loser from the future who uses basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.

His surprise appearance in Legends of Tomorrow wasn’t enough to prevent The CW from giving it the axe, but it looks like the only way is up for Booster Gold after all, as his series is set to rock the world of HBO Max alongside the likes of Paradise Lost, a prequel series to the DCEU’s Wonder Woman films said to be stylized as a “Game of Thrones-style drama,” and Waller, a Peacemaker spin-off that will see Viola Davis reprise her role as the titular Amanda Waller, the business-first, morals-later director of the Suicide Squad.

At the time of writing, there’s no word on a release date.
