A hilarious HBO Max error shows a star-studded animated DC film incorrectly listed as a horror movie

We've officially seen it all now.

Much like its streaming counterparts, online service HBO Max is a super-sized hub for all forms of cinema from various genres. It goes without saying that the horror catalog is easily one of the most sought-after in the movie industry, with its films often preying on fears and phobias, which keeps audiences on their toes. But while the majority of these features are bonafide spooky staples that are meant to be placed under the horror tag, one specific movie that has been grouped in with the rest is undoubtedly out of place — and that would be 2022’s DC League of Super-Pets.

Despite HBO Max’s surge in popularity — especially thanks to The Last of Us — it’s apparent that even forces behind the scenes are prone to make mistakes. And while folks wouldn’t necessarily consider the aforementioned animated film to be a horror flick, it’s nevertheless listed underneath the horror section — much to the complete surprise of folks on both Reddit and Twitter.

Of course, an action comedy animation with performances from Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart as talking pets wouldn’t fit the bill as a traditional horror movie, but the DC extravaganza has somehow found itself suited in that category. Believe it or not, some parents have expressed concerns that the movie’s intense plot and sinister supervillain is actually scary for kids, so perhaps the horror label is appropriate in the end.

Still, placing DC League of Super-Pets directly next to horror hits like The Nun and Halloween Kills feels a little too extreme. After all, a film centering around crime-fighting and heroic pets definitely doesn’t deserve to be considered a scary movie. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t utterly hilarious.
