Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s star, Tim Norman, has a lifetime to think about the tragic 2016 event that ultimately led to the fatal shooting of his nephew, Andre Montgomery Jr. after the 43-year-old received his sentencing for his part in the murder.
Norman and Montgomery became household names in the reality television world when they both appeared on the hit OWN Network series Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s. The show, which aired from 2011 to 2018, showcased Norman, Montgomery, and their families’ lives as they ran a restaurant.
Years following Montgomery’s passing, who was 20 at the time of the murder, Norman was charged in August 2020 for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against his nephew. The former reality star was accused of planning the arrangement alongside Travell Anthony Hill, Terica Ellis, and Waiel “Wally” Rebhi Yaghnam to collect a $450,000 life insurance policy he took out on Montgomery.
In September 2022, Norman was found guilty of murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. In the following months after Norman’s trial, his associates also received their fate. Hill was sentenced to 32 years in prison after confessing to shooting Montgomery in March 2016 when a woman made him aware of the victim’s location.
As for Ellis — a mutual friend of Norman and Montgomery — she received three years in prison after admitting that she shared Montgomery’s location after Norman bribed her with $10,000. On the other hand, Yaghnam, an insurance agent, was also sentenced to three years in prison for allegedly helping Norman take out numerous insurance policies on Montgomery dated as far as October 2014.
Tim Norman receives a life sentence
A press release shared on March 2 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that Norman was sentenced to life in jail for participating in his nephew’s death. Following the announcement, U.S. Attorney Sayler A. Fleming shared what Norman’s conviction and life sentence meant to Montgomery’s family and how the star’s actions robbed everyone. Fleming said,
“Tim Norman sought to make $450,000 by having his nephew, Andre Montgomery, killed. Instead, he was caught and will spend the rest of his life in prison. Although Andre’s family was robbed of their loved one, hopefully this result will provide some measure of peace and justice for them.”
In another statement, Special Agent in Charge Jay Greenberg shared that they couldn’t understand why Norman hasn’t accepted responsibility for his role in Montgomery’s murder despite the various evidence against him. Greenberg explained while mentioning the harm Norman caused by planning a hit on his nephew,
“Five families, especially that of the victim, are suffering and irreparably harmed as a result of Norman’s plot to have his own nephew murdered. At least all his co-conspirators have accepted responsibility. To this day, Norman hasn’t accepted responsibility despite the fact 12 jurors unanimously convicted him after seeing and hearing seven days of evidence in trial.”
Although Norman has yet to address the sentencing, he did disclose that he was innocent of the crimes he was being accused of, including creating insurance policies and participating in Montgomery’s murder. In an Instagram post shared on Feb. 23, he wrote, “I’m still in disbelief. The feds knew 100% I did not do those insurance policies. But the jury didn’t get to hear that. And not one person got on the stand and said that, I told them to hurt my nephew.”
Norman wrapped up the post by claiming that his reputation is now ruined.
No addition details have been released at this time.
