‘The Mandalorian’ star addresses Bo-Katan’s need for the Darksaber

It seems like the Darksaber might be unecessary for Bo-Katan.

The most recent episode of The Mandalorian revealed that Bo-Katan has the potential to reunite the scattered Mandalorians across the galaxy because “she walks both worlds.” Not only did she walk alongside the Children of the Watch, but she also lived by modern Mandalorian traditions and beliefs. With the events of season three hinting that Bo-Katan could rise as a new leader of Mandalore, the character’s actress, Katee Sackhoff, has more thoughts when it comes to reclaiming the Darksaber so she could easily rule Mandalore.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Sackhoff talked about whether the darksaber is necessary if she wants to help The Armorer reunite the scattered Mandalorians. According to her, it seems like Bo-Katan no longer wants to become the ruler of the Mandalorians. Bo-Katan has gone through so much self-searching throughout season three that in the end, she just wants to lead and do what’s in the best interest of the Mandalorians.

“Oh, you know, what I do know is that from where we saw her in the beginning of the season, she was defeated and broken. I think that that was her, you know, that was her rock bottom, if you will, to be able to build herself back up in a new image. She has tried everything that she can that she thought was the right way to rule and it hasn’t worked… or lead. ‘Rule’ is the wrong word … It doesn’t fit her. You know what I mean? Like she’s a warrior. She wants to lead … that’s what she wants. And I think that as misguided as she has been in a lot of her means, I think that what she’s always wanted was in the best interest of the Mandalorian people.”

Sackhoff also revealed that perhaps what Bo-Katan wants to do is be a follower instead of a leader. She wants to be accepted by others. So perhaps her need for the Darksaber is no longer necessary due Bo-Katan’s newer motives.

“But I think at this moment in her life, she finds herself willing to follow, potentially for the first time in her life … And right now we see her following The Armorer. I think that part of the reason she’s doing that is that she felt immediately accepted and I think that this is one of the things that she hasn’t tried yet, and I think that for her to feel like she finally belongs is an interesting place for her to be. So, yeah, I mean, we could get all the way into her backstory. I mean, like the way that she was treated with her father and her sister and, you know, I think that this might be the first time in her life that she was truly accepted just for being there.”

Sackhoff has been vocal about Bo-Katan’s new-found disinterest in the Darksaber when season three began. The actress claimed in the past that Bo-Katan doesn’t want to fight Din Djarin for the Mandalorian weapon since she realizes that fighting others isn’t working, hence why she was first seen as lonely and upset when season three premiered.

While the Darksaber is still in Din Djarin’s hands, we’ve seen in the show that Bo-Katan is worthy to wield the weapon, hinting that she may be the next new ruler of Mandalore.
