The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be hitting theaters soon, and Jack Black has plans for a possible sequel. According to the actor, he believes that a potential part two should be about King Koopa himself, Bowser.

During an interview with Screen Rant, Black shares that he’s willing to reprise the role of Bowser if it means that the next Mario installment would be more of exploration of the character’s story. According to the actor, if Nintendo does plan to create a second installment to the Mario movie or create a Bowser spin-off, it should be about Bowser’s revenge plot against the Mario Bros. He’s also considering an origin story on how Bowser came to power and where he came from.

“It would be cool to have “Bowser’s Revenge.” Or a spin-off that’s just “Bowser Town.” Like a whole planet of Browsers. But that’s not my job. I’m not the writer. I’ll do whatever direction they want to go. I’d love to do more.”

Let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to see Black as Bowser once more? He managed to wow fans during his appearance at New York Comic-Con 2022 and showcased his passion for the character on talk shows. Fans believed that this comedian will be the one to save The Super Mario Bros. Movie due to the “Chris Pratt as Mario” backlash the film has received since the 2021 announcement. Overall, it will be a huge missed opportunity if Nintendo decides not to make use of Black’s talents, especially if he’s passionate about the role.

Black isn’t the cast member who’s keen to reprise their role for another Super Mario Bros. installment or solo film spin-off. Seth Rogen has also opened up about his interest in starring in a potential Donkey Kong Country solo film, in the hopes of exploring Donkey Kong’s character.

So far, Nintendo has no plans to create a Super Mario Bros. sequel. But the foundations of a potential part two have been there for some time and it’s up to the film’s box office performance to determine if fans will be visiting the Mushroom Kingdom once more.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit theaters on April 5, 2023.
