The crazy cameos in ‘The Mandalorian’ leave some fans certain the show just jumped the shark

Are these crazy celebrity cameos a step too far?

This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 6

The sixth chapter of The Mandalorian‘s third season – “Guns for Hire” – has just landed on Disney Plus, and it’s safe to say it’s already generating a lot of debate amongst Star Wars fans. The episode sees Din Djarin, Bo-Katan, and Grogu start their mission to unite the Mandalorian peoples, beginning with Axe Woves’ impressive fleet (formerly Bo-Katan’s).

Their current mercenary gig is providing security to an opulent planet studded with arcologies, but to even meet them Bo-Katan and Din had to fix the city’s droid problem. And who handed them this mission? None other than Lizzo and Jack Black. It’s safe to say the appearance of these two in Star Wars has thrown fans for a loop, to the point where some of them have concluded that The Mandalorian just “jumped the shark”.

While it should be underlined that many Star Wars fans are tossing their hair and checking their nails right now, some are decidedly unimpressed:

Is Lizzo cuddling up with Grogu a step too far?

Let’s head over to Twitter:

Comparing her to Jar Jar? Ouch:

It’s silly, but does this break the show?

Are we just wasting time on celebrity cameos now?

It’s worth noting that viewing figures for The Mandalorian season three have been lower than previous seasons, and we agree that there’s a slight lack of focus compared to what’s come before. But, well, we really find it difficult to get truly mad about Lizzo showing up in a galaxy far, far away in a holographic dress and playing interstellar bug croquet with Grogu.

Here’s hoping the final two episodes of the series crank up the tension. We were promised the return of Moff Gideon, so where the heck is he?
