‘The Boys’ weighs into the blue checkmark drama with a statement from Vought Industries

Say what you will about Black Noir, but the guy has guts.

Yesterday saw the bonfire of the blue checkmarks on Twitter. Now anyone who wants a blue “verified” tick on their account has to pay $8 to Elon Mush, meaning many celebrities, companies, and governmental bodies have been tossed into an online Wild West where anybody can easily impersonate them.

Pranksters instantly leapt upon this to have some fun, and Musk even went as far as ensuring that prominent accounts like Stephen King, LeBron James, and William Shatner maintained their checkmarks without having to pay. Now The Boys is having a little fun with the situation, with the Vought International account leaning into to deliver their own nefarious propaganda:

Taciturn supe Black Noir bit the dust at the end of season 3 in typically gory fashion, with Homelander punching into his stomach and tearing his guts out, leaving him dying on the floor as his imaginary cartoon friends say they’re proud of him for at least trying to do the right thing.

If word got out that Homelander had murdered Black Noir it’d be a PR disaster, so it’s unsurprising that Vought would immediately launch into cover-up mode.

We should see the impact of this in The Boys’ fourth season next year. The shoot wrapped on April 12 and is now in post-production, most likely arriving in summer 2024. Before that, we’ll get spinoff show Gen V, which will show college-age supes training at Vought’s School of Crimefighting, which is due on Prime Video later this year.
