‘The Flash’ winning rave reactions is being treated as a personal insult against the SnyderVerse

How dare you stand where he stood!

The divide between the DCU fandom doesn’t show any signs of healing, which leaves The Flash in a precarious position heading into its long-awaited theatrical release in June.

Andy Muschietti’s epic comic book adaptation is headlined by Ezra Miller and features Ben Affleck in a supporting role, both of whom were actors cast by Zack Snyder. It’s directly connected to the preceding events of the last decade, which in turn makes it part of the SnyderVerse by definition given that we’ve already met this Barry Allen and Bruce Wayne before.

And yet, the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut is also touted as being the movie that hits the big red reset button for the entire franchise, with Affleck confirming he’s on the way out of the door as the Dark Knight yet again. Should The Flash perform as expected at the box office, then the chances are high Miller will live to fight another day in James Gunn’s DCU.

Even though the film is effectively the epilogue to the SnyderVerse, the fact it’s been winning rave reactions coming out of yesterday’s CinemaCon screening has still seen the vocal backers of the abandoned mythology out in force to compare, contrast, and tear it down in comparison to their benevolent leader’ work.

It might sound hard to believe, but it’s entirely possible to both be fan of the SnyderVerse, be excited for The Flash, and look forward with hopeful optimism for what comes next. Unfortunately, that sentiment appears to be very few and far between, but that was to be expected given how long the calls for resurrection and restoration have been rumbling on.
