New ‘The Little Mermaid’ character poster proves Flounder flopped straight out of our nightmares

Set it on fire, Disney.

Earlier today, Disney’s CinemaCon panel officially unveiled a parade of extra tidbits for its upcoming live-action rendition of The Little Mermaid. Ever since the project was first announced, Disney fanatics as far as the eye can see have provided a whirlwind of torn opinions on the matter — although the vast majority of Mouse House fans are criticizing Disney for implementing an absurd amount of changes. Unsurprisingly, one of these changes showcases how Flounder literally flopped straight out of our nightmares.

Over on Twitter, the entire platform is buzzing with regard to Disney releasing new information about the film. However, perhaps the company bit off a little more than it could chew when the design team crafted the poster for Ariel’s best friend Flounder. And, let’s just say that some things are simply better left unseen. Nevertheless, you can check out the official poster for yourself down below:

Of course, it’s typically an unfair gamble to dogpile on a movie before it’s even hit theaters yet. That being said, when an attempt is made to recreate such an impactful and impressionable piece of cinema like The Little Mermaid, then it should hardly come as a surprise that people are tearing elements of the movie to absolute shreds.

But on that same note, perhaps having a gifted young actor like Jacob Tremblay (Room) provide the voice for Flounder is enough to be a silver lining for the character’s horrid design. For those interested in viewing the final product, The Little Mermaid is scheduled to be released on May 26.
