What is TikTok’s viral ‘Changing Relationships’ trend?

The trend's premise is to highlight the contrast between a long term relationship and the 'getting to know you' stage.

Dating in the real world can be complicated, but with this latest trend on TikTok, many are able to witness the extremes that most individuals go through in their quest to find a significant other.

In the changing relationships challenge, TikTok users are seen either answering various questions or responding to a particular comment. Although the origin of the trend is unclear, its overall premise is to showcase the difference in an individual after they go through a breakup with a person they once thought would be their life-long partner and is forced to get to know someone else.

Last month, TikTok user @realjohnmaggi depicted a possible scenario that occurred in their life. In the video, @realjohnmaggi wrote how they and their significant other were talking about their future together, which consisted of owning a home, marriage, children, and pets until their relationship ended. The video wraps up with @realjohnmaggi being asked by a new person about their favorite color and the social media user shrugging their shoulder.

Since @realjohnmaggi’s post, it has generated over 8 million views and received 1.7 million likes and over 13,000 comments.

In another recording, TikTok user @k0uvr uploaded a clip of one of their greatest nightmares, breaking up with their significant other and having to start dating again. In the clip, although the scenario is fairly similar to the previous upload, @k0uvr is seen answering additional questions like if they want children and how many they would prefer.

The social media user’s video would end with the same common question asked when getting to know someone new. This video was viewed 5.5 million times and received over 880,000 likes.
