One of the most anticipated games of 2023 has been delayed

Haven't we waited long enough?

If you’re a fan of the indie darling that is Hollow Knight, we have some bad news. The game’s developer has confirmed that the sequel, Silksong, has been delayed.

While the game was never given a specific release date, fans were promised it in the first half of 2023. If you haven’t got access to a calendar, you may not have realized we are rapidly approaching that halfway point (apparently, time flies when you’re not having fun, too).

Matthew Griffin, the game’s marketing and publishing lead, shared an update in the form of a tweet today announcing that the game was still in development, meaning they would have to push back the release. His tweet reads as follows:

“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong. We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

There were no clues as to when exactly Silksong would now be released, although it will likely be sometime during the back half of this year. Griffin assured fans that the developer, Team Cherry, is hard at work making the game the best it can possibly be.

Hollow Knight is a 2D sidescroller in which players explore the underground world of “Hallownest” and battle insect-like creatures. The original game was released on PC and consoles back in 2017 and received a huge critical appraisal, with a not-too-shabby score of 90 on Metacritic.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel from the developer for six years. Many expressed their pain in the replies to Griffin’s tweet. However, by now, most fans are used to the disappointment of not receiving news about the sequel. In spite of the bad news, there were plenty of supportive comments directed at the developer, telling it to take all the time it needs to make sure that the game is at its best.

While it may be disappointing for those of us who were anticipating the sequel, it’s great to know that Team Cherry is taking the proper time and care with it. Hopefully, when it finally does release, it will live up to the high expectations set by its predecessor.
