A supremely confident James Gunn regular has already named ‘Superman: Legacy’ as their career highlight

Big talk from one of the few names confirmed for the production so far.

Almost all of the focus surrounding James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has fallen on the prospective identities of those in front of the camera, so much so that everyone seems to be overlooking the fact the filmmaker has already started gathering a troupe of trusted collaborators behind it.

Sure, it only stretches to a pair of names so far, but it’s still worth noting that costume designer and Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Judianna Makovsky worked on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and 3, the Holiday Special, and The Suicide Squad, with production designer Beth Mickle taking on on the latter three projects with the current DC Studios co-CEO.

Even though Superman: Legacy is only in its earliest stages ahead of a summer 2025 release, Mickle nonetheless described the experience as being “the highlight of her career” already in an interview with IndieWire, explaining why Gunn is the perfect fit for the revamped DCU, as well as her excitement at getting to be a part of it.

“He has a very fresh vision for the direction that the DC world can take, and he’s really committed to doing that. It’s exciting to see his notes and his references and to hear him talk about how he envisions this movie we’re going to make. I’ve talked about it with my peers how women just haven’t gotten to do movies of this tentpole franchise level. Only in the last five years have women been given any opportunities in this arena.”

As everyone awaits – whether the anticipation is of a positive or negative variety – for Gunn to lead up Superman: Legacy with plenty of familiar faces, let’s not forget the ones who are already on board. If it’s a career high for Mickle, then maybe it’ll have the same effect on audiences around the world two years from now.
