Even the MCU can’t escape the great streaming purge as three Marvel Studios series to be removed from Disney Plus

The most recent only became available this year.

Apparently deciding that it wanted to snatch Netflix’s crown as the most heartless streaming service out there, Disney Plus is set to wipe dozens of its original movies and TV series from the face of the internet this May — once combined with those being removed from sister site Hulu, a total of 50 titles will disappear from streaming this May 26. And, to prove that literally nothing is safe, among these titles are three series from Marvel Studios.

While the actual content of the MCU thankfully remains intact — there would surely be hell to pay if Disney suddenly yanked the likes of Loki and WandaVision — a trio of docuseries are set to vanish from the platform by the end of this month. First of all, there’s Marvel’s Hero Project, a 20-part series that was released back when the service first launched in November 2019. The uplifting show spotlighted a different real-life young hero in each episode.

Hopping forward two years to one that premiered in November 2022, we have Marvel’s Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever, a three-part series for Marvel music buffs that showcased how director Ryan Coogler, composer Ludwig Göransson, and their team created the Oscar-nominated sequel’s stunning soundtrack and score.

Even more recently, though, is Marvel’s MPower, which only arrived on Disney Plus this March 8. To mark International Women’s Day 2023, the glossy and star-studded four-part production celebrated the MCU’s heroines and featured contributions from many of Marvel’s most beloved leading actresses, including Brie Larson, Elizabeth Olsen, Karen Gillan, Iman Vellani, and filmmakers like James Gunn.

This sets a worrying precedent for the other MCU-adjacent documentaries that remain on the platform for now, most notably the Marvel Studios: Assembled behind-the-scenes specials. It also highly suggests fans can expect fewer of these types of projects to be made in the future.
