Now that only a few weeks separate us from the third season of The Witcher, fans of the live-action series are growing more disconsolate with every bit of breaking news.
As we grapple with the idea that it’s the streaming mogul’s intention to replace Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia from here on out, the team is pushing forward with the development as if the Wild Hunt itself was giving chase.
During a chat with Deadline (per Collider), casting director Sophie Holland confirmed The Witcher will be coming back for a fifth season, and that both seasons four and five will be filmed back to back.
“We’re just about to start filming on season four with Liam Hemsworth and there will be a short gap then we go straight into season five,” she said.
Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and her writing room must have a clear vision for how to continue this journey without Cavill, or else they wouldn’t have been able to jump so quickly back to principal photography. It bodes well for newcomer Liam Hemsworth, because even though the fans may never accept him as Geralt of Rivia after Cavill’s masterful performance, a few good scripts leading to a couple of amazing episodes are all it might take to bring the community around.
As for the upcoming Witcher season 3, Netflix has decided to split it into two parts like the previous Stranger Things outing. The first chapter, consisting of 5 episodes, is premiering on June 29. The second part, only comprising 3 episodes, will make its way to the service on July 27.
