‘Pirates of the Carribbean’ actor Sergio Calderóne passes away at age 77

Sergio Calderóne starred in 'Pirates of the Carribeean,' 'Men in Black,' and 'The Resort.'

Sergio Calderón passed away this morning, surrounded by his family, at age 77. The actor is best known for his role as Captain Vallenueva in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

While the exact cause of his death remains unknown, Yahoo! News reported that the actor was previously in hospital being treated for pneumonia. The actor’s family told Deadline that Calderón was surrounded by his family in his final moments.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Calderón studied at the Instituto Andrés Soler of the Asociación Nacional de Actores in Mexico, before he landed his first role in the 1970 film, The Bridge in the Jungle. Since then, he has starred in 50 movies and TV shows. Asides from Pirates of the Caribbean, Calderón also appeared in Men In Black as Jose, Little Fockers as Gustavo, and the 2022 Peacock series, The Resort.

Over on social media, Calderón would share his memorable moments on set in the various projects he was involved in and express his gratitude. Back in 2021, he shared a photo of his first role with a caption that reflected back to when his acting career first started.

The actor also shared photos during his time in Pirates of the Caribbean, where he stood next to his co-star and English musician, Keith Richards, who played Captain Teague in At World’s End. He also has photos of him next to former Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp.

Calderón will be leaving behind his wife, Karen Dakin, and his two children, and three grandchildren.
