Netflix’s next cult favorite fantasy series on the chopping block now has an imminent deadline

The wait is almost over, one way or the other.

For those beleaguered fans desperately waiting for some news, the upside is that an update on the fate of the latest Netflix fantasy series hanging in the balance will surely have to arrive soon. The bad news is that we can’t tell if it’s going to be an answer they’ll like. Ever since its second season dropped in March, Shadow & Bone has had an axe hanging dangerously over its head, but it seems we’ll likely find out one way or the other which way things will swing in a matter of days.

Netflix rang in June by announcing that its latest TUDUM virtual event would take place on June 17, delivering all kinds of juicy sneak peeks and news bites on its most popular series and movies, from Stranger Things to The Umbrella Academy. One show that was conspicuous for its absence in the list of series that will be covered, however, was Shadow & Bone. But if Netflix did have any update to offer about the Grishaverse show then this would be the day to do it.

The first season got a renewal just 46 days after its premiere, but we’re now pushing double that at this point and still no news. So if TUDUM comes and goes next weekend without so much as an S&B peep then fans can likely kiss any chance at a return to Ravka goodbye. There has been talk of the franchise being continued with a Six of Crows spinoff, of course, which could theoretically take place instead of a third season, but an announcement of such a project would similarly be best deployed at TUDUM.

They say the waiting is the hardest part, but the Shadow & Bone crowd should prepare themselves for the waiting to be over, whatever the outcome may be, come Saturday, June 17.
