James Gunn’s DCU quietly signs its first writer to a contract for developing ‘secret and coveted projects’

A new name that wasn't announced as part of the initial writers' room.

Things have gone fairly quiet on the DCU front since James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the first wave of projects set to form the overhauled franchise’s Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, albeit with a few notable exceptions.

Casting is underway for Superman: Legacy, which will be written and directed by the co-CEO and Guardians of the Galaxy architect, while James Mangold is on board to helm Swamp Thing, all signs point to The Flash‘s Andy Muschietti rebooting Batman in The Brave and the Bold, and the animated Creature Commandos has its principal cast in place.

However, an intriguing development appears to have gone almost completely unnoticed, after it was revealed by New York Women in Film and Television that Ana Nogueira has been signed to a contract. An actress, playwright, and filmmaker with credits including The Blacklist, The Vampire Diaries, Blue Bloods, and short film We Win, it’s noted by NYWIT that the 38 year-old “is currently working under an overall deal for DC writing some of their most secret and coveted projects.”

Not only that, but it’s additionally offered that “she is the first writer to be put under contract at DC,” which is quite the accomplishment. When Gods & Monsters was announced, the assembled scribes set to act as the shared universe’s brain trust were Gunn, Drew Goddard, Christina Hodson, Jeremy Carver, Christal Henry, and Tom King, but Nogueria being under contract would indicate that moves are continuing to happen behind the scenes that aren’t getting as widely-publicized.
