The penny-pinching final stand for a fallen comic book franchise tosses 7 cast members on the scrapheap

It isn't going out at full strength, that's for sure.

It wasn’t too long ago that a large number of DC fans were willing to die on the hill of the Arrowverse being the comic book company’s most reliable source of content, with the interconnected episodic adventures thrilling audiences around the world. These days are in the past, though, with Superman & Lois the last series left standing ahead of its fourth and final season.

To say that The CW has been ruthless across the board would be an understatement, and not just in regards to its costumed capers. The network has been pinching as many pennies as it can, tossing countless popular shows onto the scrapheap of irrelevancy, with Superman & Lois one of the very few to be granted a stay of execution, regardless of how brief it turned out to be.

However, it hasn’t all been sunshine and roses, with budgetary reasons being blamed for another seven cast members being cut loose as the sprawling ensemble significantly dwindles in number. Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor may have been bumped up to a series regular – which makes sense given he’s the title hero’s arch-nemesis – but a lot of others haven’t been so lucky.

Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Erik Valdez, Wole Parks, and Inde Navarrette – who’d all been part of the Superman & Lois furniture since the first season – will not be coming back for season 4. In addition, Tayler Buck and Sofia Hamsik are also out of the door as The CW’s purse strings continue getting tighter.

It’s not an ideal situation for anyone, but if there’s any silver lining, it’s that Superman & Lois will at least be afforded the opportunity to bring its story to a close.
