Another cancellation campaign falls on deaf ears as a small screen fantasy favorite officially bites the dust

Hashtags and petitions prove worthless yet again.

Thanks to the ongoing content purge that’s seen Disney Plus channel the spirit of Netflix by casting upwards of 50 film and television titles directly into whatever the on-demand equivalent of purgatory is, any fan-backed campaign to save a canceled series looks more doomed than ever before. Unfortunately, The Winchesters has found that out the hard way.

Even though its progenitor ran for a colossal 15 seasons and 327 episodes, The CW’s own housekeeping exercise that’s left the fate of many high-profile hits completely in the air saw the Supernatural spin-off given the boot after a solitary run. Naturally, the troops were quickly mobilized in an effort to secure the prequel a new home, with Jensen Ackles the one leading the charge.

However, those pleas have fallen on deaf ears after nobody stepped in to save The Winchesters from the streaming guillotine. Max falls under the Warner Bros. Discovery banner just like The CW, Netflix holds the distribution rights to Supernatural in many countries around the world, and Ackles’ production company has a deal with Amazon, but none of the three were interested.

A fantasy show being ended prematurely is barely even news at this point given how often it happens across almost every major streamer, but given the size and strength of the Supernatural fandom, this one is going to sting. The ratio of shows to mount campaigns to the number that have actually succeeded in their goals is woefully skewed, with The Winchesters merely the latest in a long line of one-and-done failures to bite the dust.
