In just two weeks, the third season of The Witcher on Netflix will reintroduce fans to Geralt of Rivia, and though we’ve yet to come to terms with Henry Cavill’s departure from the series, the fandom is abuzz with speculation now that the Rivian white wolf is returning for one last ride on the small screens.
The third season is supposed to adapt the events of the fourth book, Time of Contempt, which will have Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri running away from their pursuers across the Continent. Netflix has now revealed the episode titles for the first half of season three, and the community is understandably in a frenzy over deciphering their meaning.
As you can see below, the first episode will be called “Shaerrawedd” — the name of an ancient castle in Kaedwen — which means that our party of heroes might pass through it during the premiere episode.
The second episode is “Unbound,” and that could obviously mean anything. The rest are “Reunion,” perhaps between the main characters, “The Invitation,” possibly alluding to the events of Thanedd, and lastly, “The Art of Illusion.”
The release of these episode titles reminds us of a certain normalcy in terms of fan participation and hype that we’d sorely missed since news of Cavill’s goodbye broke out.
If season three turns out to be a decent and faithful outing, would that redeem Netflix and allow the fandom to see past losing their titular protagonist? Frankly, it’s still a little difficult to imagine Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, but perhaps the writers can convince us otherwise by the time this part of the journey is over.
The first five episodes of The Witcher season three, comprising Volume 1, are premiering this June 29. Volume 2, consisting of the remaining three chapters, will come out a month after that on July 27.
