‘Warrior Nun’ showrunner calls out the egregious erasure of a genuine Batman icon

One of the major selling points for upcoming Batman reboot The Brave and the Bold is that it’ll feature the first major big screen outing for Robin in costume for over a quarter of a century, with Chris O’Donnell the last actor to suit up and swoop into action as the Boy Wonder.

However, it technically wasn’t the character’s last appearance, but bringing that up is capable of lighting a fire under the most ardent of comic book fans. In terms of pointless reveals that were made just for the sake of it and didn’t lead anywhere, the bombshell that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises was originally known by the name “Robin” led to a combination of gasps and eye-rolls in theaters everywhere.

Christopher Nolan made it perfectly clear he was done with DC immediately after, so what was the point? There wasn’t one, to be frank, but Warrior Nun showrunner Simon Barry refuses to let Robin erasure of any kind carry on for any longer.

Whether you count The Dark Knight Rises or not, it’s fair to say based on nothing but the source material that The Brave and the Bold is going to offer a completely different take on Batman’s iconic charge than Joel Schumacher did, which is a blessing if ever there was one. Apparently, you just shouldn’t let the executive producer of a beloved Netflix series be made aware of Gordon-Levitt being swept under the rug, otherwise he’ll feel compelled to call it out.
