Basic math is used to hit back against Marvel Studios’ claims about ‘Secret Invasion’s AI opening credits

It's not adding up.

The AI generated opening sequence to Secret Invasion caused a pretty big upset amongst viewers, but supposedly it didn’t cost anyone their jobs, However a quick look at the names credited and it’s obvious that something’s not adding up.

A lot more goes into making an opening credits sequence than you might think. It takes a dedicated team whose main focus is to create something that reflects the show itself in terms of atmosphere, visuals and sound. On top of all that, they’ve got to find space for the cast and people on the production side as well. It’s no easy task but a good opening credits can really help a show shine.

Now to most people, eight people might sound like a big enough team to carry out such a job. After all, that’s how many were credited with the opening for Secret Invasion, and we know that no jobs were lost to AI tools right? However, one Twitter user has looked back to a previous MCU Disney Plus show, Ms. Marvel, and found that there were more than eight people credited for the opening sequence. A lot more.

Straight away you can see the monumental difference between the two shows. Although the two are about the same length and look to be about as complicated as each other, Secret Invasion has less than a fifth the amount of names credited. To put it bluntly, that math ain’t mathin’.

Whilst the Studio has maintained that no jobs were lost, it’s really hard to imagine that being the case and, understandably, there’s been a pretty huge controversy surrounding the whole ordeal. Many are upset that Marvel would use AI in such a reckless way that could set a precedent, including the actual Kingpin himself.

Now before we bring out our pitchforks, one Twitter user did point out that sometimes VFX artists aren’t credited properly in films providing a screenshot from Deadpool 2’s credits that also lists eight names for the opening title sequence.

They may have a point, but this whole thing just seems fishy. Marvel were perfectly capable of crediting their artists in another Disney Plus show so why have the names been dropped all of a sudden. The reality is it’s difficult to prove whether jobs really were lost or not, however, the backlash from fans over may make Marvel think twice about using AI again.
