James Gunn accused of spitefully naming the new Superman right before Henry Cavill’s last season of ‘The Witcher’

Here we go again...

As the co-CEO of DC Studios, a former alumni of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and somebody who most definitely isn’t Zack Snyder, James Gunn is no stranger to the odd conspiracy or two since assuming command of Kevin Feige’s competition.

At various points he’s been accused of being a double agent sent by Marvel to destroy the DCU from within – although the box office returns indicate the franchise can do that just fine all by itself – while there was that bizarre time he felt the need to respond to claims he deliberately strategized his social media activity around whatever Snyder was doing for the sole purpose of undermining him.

With that in mind, was anyone really surprised that Henry Cavill would be dragged into the nonsensical foil hat-wearing brigade’s crusade against the Guardians of the Galaxy director? Most certainly not, but as you can imagine, there are genuinely people out there convinced the announcement of David Corenswet as the star of Superman: Legacy was spitefully and intentionally made roughly 36 hours before the premiere of The Witcher‘s third season for the sole purpose of undermining Cavill.

Of course, you’d have to ignore the fact Tuesday is not Thursday, or that everyone knows the actor is on his way out as Geralt of Rivia when the second volume drops next month, but since when has the anti-Gunn mob ever allowed the facts to get in the way of a perfectly good story? Then again, maybe they’ve been right this entire time and it really is a conspiracy…
