It seems like no one can escape the hype train that is the promotional campaign for Warner Bros. upcoming summer hit Barbie. Ever since the first teaser hit YouTube, no one has been able to shake the excitement of seeing the iconic Mattel toy gracing the big screen in live-action form. Sure, there’s been plenty of direct-to-video Barbie movies over the years, as well as the iconic performance from Jodi Benson in the Toy Story franchise, but Greta Gerwig’s take on the toy is something truly different.
So it’s not a surprise that riding off the coattails of the chaotic “Grimace shake” trend, we’re seeing the same treatment for the tie-in “Barbie” shake at Cold Stone Creamery. Now, to clarify, this isn’t a specific milkshake themed around Barbie. However, Cold Stone released the “All That Glitters Is Pink” creation in honor of the film’s July 21 release. The trend involves taking the custom flavor, and requesting a shake version rather than serving the treat up in a cone.
Rather than committing war crimes like the victims of the Grimace shake trend, drinking the sparkly shake will instead turn you fabulous in pink. Fitting for a movie that literally caused a shortage of pink paint during filming. Take a look to see how far TikTok is willing to go for the trend.
What really sells this video from TikTok user @catinatorgg is the heels not being on his feet. While Barbie may have perfectly arched feet that make her never feel uncomfortable in heels, any woman in your life will tell you the opposite. Bonus points for actually filming this outside a Cold Stone as well, which seems to be a recurring theme with this trend.
The videos that seem like normal reviews but then buy into the trend always make it that much funnier. The Barbie promotional tour already has us seeing pink, so it’s no surprise the Barbie shake would literally have us seeing pink.
Well, the caption says it’s their uncle doing the trend, but the energy still radiates “Dad being forced into a TikTok.” That being said, we want a link to that Hawaiian shirt. It’s giving major Ken-ergy, which is the only thing we want to bring the theater July 21.
Anytime TikTok throws the “Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt” warning on a video, you know you’re going to enjoy it. From the wig to the shoes to that gorgeous shade of lipstick, user @kevin_pyle7 did not come to play, but to give the performance of his life.
We’re not sure if we really want to try the Oppenheimer shake trend if it ever comes around. That being said, if the videos we get are anything like @ceekayye and her friend’s, we might be willing to give it a shot, even if tastes like smoke and war.
To be fair, the Barbie movie looks chaotic, and the Grimace shake trend is actual chaos, so we’re not sure what we expected. Plus, if we’ve learned anything during our years on the internet, you can never underestimate the power of “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
