In the latest episode of Marvel’s darkest spy thriller, another covert ally of Nick Fury may have had her MCU journey cut short. The Nick Fury-focused series Secret Invasion is political espionage packed with murders and double agent antics. The series’ first death came in the very first episode when Fury’s right-hand lady, Maria Hill, was shot down in Russia by Gravik disguised as the cycloptic S.H.I.E.L.D. figurehead. Now, the show might have unleashed yet another heartbreak on fans with the demise of another beloved character.

Episode 3 of Secret Invasion aired on Disney Plus on July 5, and it has left fans confused with the ending that seemingly suggests that Emilia Clarke’s character G’iah is dead. Clarke recently became a new addition to the MCU, who debuted as the Skrull daughter of Talos and Soren in the first episode of Secret Invasion. But after only three episodes, her fate appears sealed.

G’iah joined Gravik’s faction of Skrulls to live on Earth, but she secretly ties with Fury and his comrades after growing skeptical of Gravik’s missions. She then starts collaborating covertly with Fury, Talos, Soren, and Hill to stop Gravik and the Skrull Council from gaining control of Earth. To help Fury overthrow the danger, G’iah frequently leaked information about Gravik’s plans. However, Gravik grew suspicious of her after Brogan’s death was reported to the police, and devised a submarine strike to expose G’iah as a traitor.

When Talos and Nick Fury visit Bob Fairbanks, the person in charge of organizing the submarine strike, and discover that he has been replaced by a Skrull, they realize that G’iah is being set up. Talos then warns her on the phone and asks her to escape, but Gravik catches up to her. He asks, “Are you a leader of Skrulls or our enemy?,” before abruptly shooting her dead. G’iah then transforms back into a Skrull and collapses on the ground with a bleeding wound on her chest.

Does Emilia Clarke’s MCU journey end here?

Though the episode clearly suggests that Emilia Clarke’s contract is over just three weeks into her MCU journey, her death might just be a deception. And even if she really did die, coming back from the dead isn’t an unknown phenomenon in MCU. Fans are already speculating a comeback for G’iah based on the Secret Invasion trailer that features a few clips that have not yet been featured in the series.

The footage features G’iah and Priscilla Fury/Varra together, who are yet to share the screen so far. Though the clip might be a flashback, there are still chances that Clarke might make a surprise return, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed for now.

Catch the next episode of Secret Invasion on July 12, 2023, at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT, only on Disney Plus.
