Threads is the latest addition to Meta Software, rolling out on July 5. It serves as an alternative to Twitter, allowing Instagram users to share thoughts of 500 characters or less and like, comment, or repost other people’s threads.
To join Threads, creators can either download the app and log into their Instagram account, or join from the Instagram app itself.
Hitting the three lines on the top right-hand corner of your profile will display a pop-up menu. Second from the top, labeled ‘Threads,’ is each user’s invitation to the platform. Click the “Get Threads” button at the bottom and log in.
Instagram users may have noticed a badge featuring the Threads logo and a number on other people’s Instagram profiles. This badge serves as a link to the creator’s Threads page and displays what number they were to join.
However, if creators don’t like the look of the badge on their profile or don’t want followers to have easy access to that link, all they have to do is tap their badge.
After doing so, a pop-up menu will give the option to either ‘View Threads profile’ or ‘Hide Badge.’ Once you tap ‘Hide Badge,’ it cannot be re-added to the profile page.
According to Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerburg’s Threads page, the app has already reached 100 million sign-ups less than a week after its release, and if you check his Instagram bio, his Threads badge reads “1.” To get your badge (likely with a much high number), head to Instagram and get started.
