Wolverine’s ‘Deadpool 3’ outfit allows this ‘X-Men’ joke to resurface

A joke made all the way back in the first 'X-Men' film has new life breathed into it thanks to 'Deadpool 3' set pictures.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine costume in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film has been revealed and it is everything! Pictures from the set show the character in his comic book accurate yellow suit and this has allowed one joke from the first X-Men film to have a double payoff.

Images of the character hit the internet yesterday and fans were going wild. Seeing our favorite superheroes come to life is one thing, but seeing them looking as close to the comic book version of them as possible just adds that extra bit of joy. Jackman was seen sporting his character’s yellow and blue costume which fans have been begging him to wear for a long time now.

A lot of the time, superhero films often update the look of characters to fit the big screen and ground them in reality as much as possible (especially given all the other weird stuff that happens). Jackman has worn a bunch of other suits before, notably his first one when he joins the X-Men. Here they opted for a more understated black leather suit, more fitting of a mission than “hey look at me I’m right here!” bright yellow. At this point the film took the opportunity to make a joke about the character’s comic book costume.

One fan on Reddit pointed out that, in the wake of the Deadpool 3 images, this joke now pays off even better.

The costume looks as close as possible to the comic-book version of the character, though it is of course missing one key piece. Fans of the comic books are finally getting their wish, a Wolverine clad head-to-toe in bright yellow. Though, we will say, it looks a little more durable than spandex.

It would seem the film is really going to hit us over the head with the hammer of nostalgia as Jennifer Garner is also back to reprise her role as Elektra, perhaps in an attempt trying to save her much-maligned character, in the same way Deadpool rose from the ashes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Deadpool 3 will hit theatres on May 4, 2024.
