Trouble in Trump land?: As Trump and Republicans rush to bury the Epstein files, Lara Trump assures their swift release

Lara Trump, the former co-chair of the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, has called for more transparency from the White House regarding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

According to Politico, the statement comes at a time when the Justice Department has officially closed the Epstein case, causing tension among Trump’s political supporters who have been asking for the release of investigation documents. There is also the matter of Republicans doing their best to block the release of the Epstein files.

During a podcast interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Lara Trump stated that she believes more information will be released “sooner rather than later,” as long as it doesn’t harm any witnesses or underage individuals involved in the case.

Trump supporters demand answers as DOJ faces criticism

The situation has created a divide between the administration and its supporters, particularly after top Justice Department officials went back on their promises to release the investigation files. Notable Trump allies, including Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk, voiced their demands for the files’ release at the recent Turning Point USA conference.

Many of the president’s supporters have questioned the DOJ’s conclusion that Epstein died by suicide while in federal custody during Trump’s first term. They have also called for the release of a supposed client list, which administration officials now say does not exist, despite previous unsealed documents revealing Epstein’s extensive network of contacts.

Legal experts suggest that the Department of Justice might face limitations in sharing additional information due to the sensitive nature of the case, which has implicated numerous high-profile figures, including former President Bill Clinton, who recently addressed his regrets about his relationship with Epstein. This comes after earlier promises made by Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to release investigation documents when they joined the Trump administration.

Democrats have taken advantage of the situation, with Representative Marc Veasey of Texas introducing a resolution calling for the files’ release. The Democratic National Committee has also launched an account on X specifically focused on demanding the release of these files, joining other Democratic lawmakers in criticizing the White House’s lack of transparency.

The timing of Lara Trump’s comments has drawn additional attention as Republicans wait to see if she will run for Senate in North Carolina, following Senator Thom Tillis’s retirement announcement. Many Republicans view her as a leading candidate to replace Tillis, who recently broke with his party on their domestic policy agenda bill.
