Charlamagne tha God says a potential Trump Diddy pardon is just one example of the president’s attempt to divert attention away from Jeffrey Epstein and appeal to what Charlamagne calls “Black Twitter.” But according to Charlamagne, it’s Donald Trump‘s MAGA base the president needs to worry about most.
“No one moves the needle more on social media than Black people”
In his July 30 episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne addressed the possibility of a pardon. Among other recent instances, he called it an attempt to reach “Black Twitter,” amid widespread outrage over what many see as an attempt to cover up Trump’s connection to Epstein and Trump’s involvement in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.
Charlamagne mentioned Trump accusing Obama of treason, and saying Beyoncé and Al Sharpton should be investigated over a pay-for-play deal when they endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
“President Trump is very social media savvy, and he knows no one moves the needle more on social media than Black people,” Charlamagne said. “Black Twitter amplifies everything, and that’s why so many things he’s been flooding the zone with this week have been about Black people,” he added, mentioning Obama, Beyoncé, Kamala Harris, and Sharpton.
“And then let me throw out there, I’m thinking about pardoning Diddy. Maybe this will push those Epstein headlines,” or potential Ghislaine Maxwell Congressional testimony, “out of the news,” the host continued.
What Trump doesn’t realize, Charlamagne said, “those people who voted for Trump, it’s more of them than it is Black Twitter. Those are the people who won’t stop talking about the Epstein files. Those are the people who will keep calling out the obvious cover-up.”
“At this point, by Friday,” Charlamagne joked, Trump will offer “Black people reparations.”
Will Trump pardon Diddy?
The only thing Trump has said about a Diddy pardon came in May, when Trump told an Oval Office reporter, he hadn’t been asked, but “I know they’re thinking about it,” he said, referring to Diddy’s team. “I think some people have been very close to asking.”
According to Trump, he and Diddy had a falling out, but the president said, “I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact.”
In July, Sean “Diddy” Combs was found guilty on two lesser charges of transporting individuals for prostitution. Still, he was acquitted of more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking conspiracy. A White House source told Deadline the president was considering the idea, but so far, there has been no official statement from the president. Diddy’s sentencing is expected on October 3.
