‘LOOK AT HIS NECK’: Bafflement as Fox News contributor appears to wear realistic latex mask disguise live on air

If you turn on Fox News at any random time you’re likely to be confronted by some truly strange-looking individuals, but yesterday may have taken the cake when it came to alarming viewers.

Retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward (a former Navy SEAL and CENTCOM deputy commander) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom to discuss Trump’s disastrous war with Iran, but was it really Harward on our screens?

I don’t want to get all tinfoil hat, but it really, really looks like someone is wearing a realistic latex mask who’s pretending to be Harward. This isn’t really a matter of getting out Photoshop and going through this frame-by-frame, as you can clearly see the neck flap of the mask just above his shirt collar:

I mean, the video speaks for itself, right? Either this is some insanely unlikely combination of loose skin and bad lighting creating an optical illusion, or someone is wearing a Bob Harwood mask and pretending to be him. I don’t want the latter to be the case, but I have rewatched this video over and over and it really, really looks like a latex mask.

So what in the Mission: Impossible is going on here?! Why would someone need to impersonate a relatively obscure retired vice admiral for a Fox News segment? Surely if there was some kind of double-booking and he couldn’t make the show there’s an easier way of working around that than putting an impersonator in a mask?

A peek around the more conspiracy-minded corners of the internet suggests a common theory that this might have been a subtle test of new mask technology, to see if regular people would be fooled.

But there’s even a couple of holes in that: it’s 2026 so presumably it’d just be easier to deepfake someone than use a latex mask, why pick this particular guy to disguise someone as, and if you’re going to go to all the trouble of making this thing, why leave the neck flap so visible?

Hopefully, we get an actual answer soon. We can only hope that this really is the craziest trick of the light we’ve ever seen, as if it is a mask that raises a ton more questions about what the heck is going on behind-the-scenes at Fox News!
