‘I deserve it’: Donald Trump is still begging for his Nobel Peace Prize and has started cold-calling Norwegian ministers

It has been seven months since Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office, and his goal of winning a Nobel Peace Prize is still one of his main priorities. The American president is so eager to win the famous diplomatic award that he recently made an unexpected phone call to a high-ranking Norwegian official to talk about the prize.

The call, which was first reported by a Norwegian newspaper, happened last month and was confirmed by a government official in Oslo. This was not the first time Trump had brought up the Nobel Peace Prize with the same official. The person who received the surprising call was Norway’s Finance Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, who is also a former NATO secretary-general.

According to a statement from Stoltenberg, the conversation included talks about trade tariffs and economic cooperation and was described as preparation for a future call with Norway’s prime minister. People familiar with the situation said that the American president also used the opportunity to discuss his efforts to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump wants that nobel prize badly

While Stoltenberg did not share more details about the call, the unexpected contact shows how much the president still wants to secure the honor. Trump has apparently brought up the topic of the prize with Stoltenberg at least once before.

President Trump’s push for the Nobel Peace Prize comes as his administration points to several diplomatic actions as proof of his ability to make peace. He has claimed responsibility for reducing tensions between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan after a series of border clashes earlier this year. Additionally, he hosted the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House in Washington to help negotiate an end to decades of conflict between the two countries.

Trump complained during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office, “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. It’s too bad. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”

Several nations, including Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia, have already nominated him for the award, pointing to his work in arranging peace deals and ceasefires since he became president again in January. The president’s ambitions are now drawing attention as he gets ready for an important meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This summit is seen as a major test of the president’s claims to be a global peacemaker. Any progress on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could strengthen his case for the Nobel, while any mistake could hurt his chances.
