A wave of lawsuits has emerged, highlighting the ‘dark side’ of Roblox, the popular online platform. These lawsuits allege the company fails to keep its users safe, despite its vast virtual world where users design and play games.

One of the most harrowing cases involved a 10-year-old girl who was groomed, manipulated, and ultimately abducted by a predator who initially contacted her via Roblox, prompting her family to file a lawsuit against both Roblox and Discord in California.

The predator, posing as a peer, coaxed her to reveal her home address, then lured her into real-world danger. Authorities found her hundreds of miles away after a frantic search.

The lawsuit, filed by Anapol Weiss, marks at least the seventh such case brought by the firm against Roblox, spotlighting a pattern of alleged negligence in protecting minors.

Over 300 lawsuits across the U.S.

The California case is part of a much larger wave. According to reports, the Dolman Law Group has reportedly filed over 300 similar lawsuits nationwide, including one in California, filed by a Michigan mother on behalf of her 10-year-old daughter.

These class-action claims allege that Roblox enabled predators through lax moderation, dangerous “condo games,” and avatar customizations simulating nudity while profiting indirectly, especially through its in-game currency, Robux.

State-Level Action: Louisiana attorney general takes aim

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has launched a lawsuit against Roblox, calling it “the perfect place for pedophiles.”According to the complaint, Roblox failed to enforce basic safety measures, including age verification and parental consent, putting profit and platform growth before child safety.

The lawsuit references disturbing game titles such as “Escape to Epstein Island,” “Survive Diddy,” and “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe,” and accuses Roblox of permitting simulated sexual activity within these experiences.

Bay Area teens join the fray

Adding to the mounting pressure, two 14-year-old girls in the Bay Area have also separately sued Roblox and Discord, claiming that weak safety protocols on both platforms enabled sexual predators to groom and assault them.

One incident was an attempted rape that was prevented by law enforcement intervention; the other involved a sexual assault that occurred in 2022. According to the suit, safer design features, like identity verification and parental controls, might have prevented these attacks.

Roblox maintains that it prioritizes user safety, highlighting its AI-powered moderation system, Sentinel, and ongoing collaborations with law enforcement.

Yet, critics argue these measures fall short. Internal documents cited in lawsuits show Roblox tracked sexualized avatar settings—such as ‘how big a bulge’ was allowed—but did little to remove or modify the content. One former employee reportedly remarked that the company prioritized growth over user safety.
