A TikTok video showing a woman being repeatedly questioned by an off-screen man about her relationship status has gone viral, gaining 3.3 million views, 348,200 likes, and more than 3,600 comments.
The TikTok video was posted by creator Molly Mitchell (@mollyxmitchell). In the caption, she wrote, “i had to film this why don’t they take a hint???”
The clip shows Mitchell sitting outdoors under a thatched umbrella, wearing sunglasses, as a man off-screen asks her questions about her love life and vacation.
Man dismisses her relationship status by citing a version of the “Vegas” saying
In the video, on-screen text reads “i hate men lol.” The man asks Mitchell, “Any hot Greek guys hit on you yet?” She responds, “I mean, I don’t know, I have a boyfriend, so-” He then asks, “Where’s he at?” and she replies, “He’s back home.” The man dismisses this, saying, “That doesn’t matter, you’re on a Greek vacation. What happens in Greece stays in Greece.” Mitchell responds, “That matters to me.”
The man then says, “Well I mean, it only matters if you’re in Las Vegas.” Mitchell looks confused and replies, “Right. Huh? I don’t know what- I don’t know what that means.” The man explains, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right?” Mitchell simply says, “Okay.”
The man continues asking questions, including how long she has been “going steady” with her boyfriend. Mitchell answers, “For about a year.” He responds, “Okay, okay, cool. Very nice,” before pointing off-camera and saying, “This is my girlfriend.”
Mitchell reacts with a look of disgust, and the man laughs and says, “Yeah… no she’s not.” Mitchell remarks, “She seemed really happy about that comment.” The interaction ends with the man asking, “So do you, do you tan often?” as Mitchell reaches toward the camera to stop recording.
Mitchell posted a follow-up video on TikTok responding to a comment that accused her of “encouraging” the man’s behavior by continuing to talk to him. In the caption of that video, she wrote, “blaming the victim for predatory behavior makes you no better yourself!”
In this second clip, on-screen text shows a comment that reads, “stop engaging in the conversation you’re encouraging him.” The video shows a different interaction, where an off-screen man says, “It looks like your friends got lost at sea. Where are they at?” Mitchell replies, “They’re right there,” and the man says, “I don’t see them.”
The man introduces himself, saying, “Anyway, where- I’m Johnny, by the way. I’m from Pennsylvania. What do you do for a living?” Mitchell responds, “I just work.” He then asks, “Nightlife? Have you had a try of it?” and she replies, “Mhm.” Mitchell’s discomfort with the man’s questions is not unique, as a California man was also criticized for creeping out a teen girl at a restaurant.
The video later shows the same man, shirtless, crouching next to Mitchell’s beach chair. On-screen text reads, “he came back a second time,” along with a quote from him asking, “so are you guys all from the same area?” Such interactions are part of a wider pattern of men approaching women in public, like when a San Diego woman met a man on a walk and later shut down his last-minute text for drinks.
Viewers shared a range of reactions in the comments section of the first video. One commenter wrote, “Girl never tell ‘he’s back home’ because now they know you’re alone without any male, always say that he’s at the bar or something.” Another commenter wrote, “Someone’s future husband.”
Some viewers questioned why Mitchell continued the conversation instead of walking away. One commenter wrote, “Why you keep talking to him.” Another said, “Don’t talk to men like this. Just ignore them and walk away.”
Another comment read, “I don’t understand why women entertain men at this point just tell him to get away from you and to leave you alone.” One male viewer commented on the discomfort of watching the exchange, writing, “He is making me uncomfortable and I am behind a screen.”
