It’s all fun and games for MAGA until the Trump administration’s cruel and moronic policies affect you and your loved ones. Practically ever since the inauguration, we’ve seen die-hard Trump voters suddenly and miserably realizing that their vote means they will no longer receive the medication they need, their crops won’t sell, or they’re being booted out of the country.
Now it’s the turn of conservative radio host Erick Erickson, who hosts a nationally syndicated talk show. Erickson occupies Rush Limbaugh’s old slot, endorsed Trump for the presidency twice, but is clearly now feeling some buyer’s remorse at the Republican administration.
Erickson’s wife is currently suffering from Stage 4 lung cancer, meaning she needs the COVID-19 vaccine (presumably due to a dangerously weakened immune system). But, tragically, RFK Jr’s anti-vaccine views have now seriously restricted its use across the country, so Erickson’s wife is now in needless danger at one of the saddest and most stressful moments in her life:

To be broadly fair to Erickson, he’s not a dyed-in-the-wool Trump acolyte. He’s previously criticised Trump as a “fascist”, though went on to endorse him in 2020 and 2024.. Make of that what you will.

Erickson’s situation is an increasingly common story across MAGA. It’s easy to be performatively cruel and evil when the situation isn’t directly affecting you, and like Erickson, it’s also easy to build a career on throwing pieces of red meat to idiot conservatives to chew on.
But, as many are grimly realizing, you reap what you sow. Erickson sowed the seeds of an administration with whackadoo views about medical science, promoted inane conspiracy theories, and paved the way for Trump in the White House. Now his wife is reaping the consequences of her husband’s views.
Whether or not Erickson ever reconsiders that he might just have backed the wrong horse remains to be seen. Given the MAGA lack of capacity for self-reflection and wilful ignorance of the consequences of their actions, I somehow doubt it.
