Miley Cyrus takes aim at mom Tish, says she pushed her to stay with the ‘wrong guys’

"Terrible" dating advice is just one word for it.

Miley Cyrus just threw some major shade at her mom, Tish Cyrus, for handing out what she called “terrible” dating advice. During a video chat with The Cut, Miley revealed that Tish used to push her to stay with the “wrong guys” simply because they were good-looking. Apparently, Tish’s advice was to focus on a guy being “friggin’ hot to look at,” even if he lacked a good personality or respect for her.

Now, to be fair, the conversation had a playful tone, but it’s not a secret that the Cyrus family has been through their share of messy love lives and family drama. This is something that Miley seems to be fully aware of, according to TMZ. Miley has had a few failed flings and a high-profile marriage to Liam Hemsworth, and she had to learn the hard way that respect matters more than just looks.

She even stated that Tish never put “respect” in her top three dating requirements. However, Miley is now happy with her current boyfriend, drummer Maxx Morando, who she says respects her and means the world to her. It’s interesting to hear this come out, especially after all the family drama that has been in the news lately.

Miley Cyrus calls out her mom’s bad advice

It’s no secret that the family has been in a very public feud, especially after Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus split up for good. Tish filed for divorce for the third and final time in April 2022, according to E Online, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and they hadn’t even been living together since February 2020. Then, Billy Ray moved on with Australian singer Firerose, who is 27 years his junior, and Tish went Instagram-official with Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell. Both of them ended up getting married in 2023.

There were a lot of whispers about a family rift, with sources close to Miley saying she wasn’t exactly a fan of her dad’s new relationship, and the fact that Billy Ray’s son Trace Cyrus pleaded with him on Instagram to reconnect with the family. The family has seemingly mended fences since then, with Billy Ray sharing a photo of himself with Miley and her boyfriend, and Miley stating on Instagram that she’s at peace with how things have played out.

But even with the public reunions, it’s clear there’s still a lot of Cyrus family lore to unpack. The recent dating advice revelation just adds another layer to the story. Miley’s sister Noah is on a similar boat, having to learn the hard way about what makes for a good relationship. Noah, who is now engaged, said that her last relationship was a big learning experience.
