Cardi B assault allegations finally reach verdict in viral civil trial as she continues to claim she ‘did not touch’ the accuser

Her alleged victim had stressed that the singer's attack left her needing plastic surgery.

Cardi B has been facing an assault charge in a Los Angeles court where a security guard named Emani Ellis was suing her for $24m for allegedly cutting her cheek with a 3-inch fingernail and spitting on her. The civil case ended with a jury entirely clearing Cardi B of any wrongdoing in a case that has since stuck with fans for all the viral clips where the singer’s personality completely took over the proceedings.

Ellis worked security at an obstetrician’s office in 2018. At the time, the Grammy Award winner was pregnant with her first child, and it was not yet public knowledge. Cardi B was on the verge of releasing her debut album, and she was undoubtedly one of the biggest names in music — so understandably, if a story about her pregnancy leaked to the press, it would “break” the internet.

BBC reports that Cardi B alleges Ellis was trying to record her, and she immediately confronted her to tell her how she was bothered by her actions. Ellis claims that Cardi B scratched her face and left her “traumatized.” But Cardi B’s lawyers claimed that the confrontation didn’t go beyond shouting and name-calling.

Unlike the Diddy trial, however, this was not a criminal case, and it was televised for fans to see everything. One clip that has since gone viral is Ellis’ lawyer asking Cardi B about her changing appearances and wigs throughout the trial. Another viral moment came when Cardi B talked about how their weight differences meant she wouldn’t dare physically provoke Ellis because of the fear she had for her unborn child.

The case was eventually left for the jury to decide, but Cardi B’s case was strong after the doctor and receptionist at the location all but corroborated the version of events that did not include any violence whatsoever. Cardi B eventually came out victorious.

The platinum selling rapper is no stranger to public conflict, but this time she reiterated that she actually was, in fact, innocent. Outside the court, Cardi B addressed the crowd, saying, “I work all day and I work hard for my money, for my kids, for the people that I take care of. So don’t you ever think that you’re going to sue me, and I’m just going to settle.” According to NBC, Cardi B continued, “I’m not even playing around. Even if I’m at my deathbed, I swear to God, I will say it at my deathbed — I did not touch that woman.”

Ironically enough, as she was handling this case about her privacy being invaded by people trying to pry whether she was pregnant or not — similar allegations about whether she’s pregnant now were percolating. Cardi B had a very public messy breakup with her husband and fellow rapper Offset. Now she’s with NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs, and as Cardi B made her way in and out of court, her every movement was examined to try and figure out whether she’s pregnant again.

I suppose with celebrities that’s just par for the course. As long as you don’t actually record her at the hospital to find out — Cardi B will probably not have a problem with you speculating about her life.
