Donald Trump’s war on the FBI continues as he claims another ex-director ‘got caught’ about Jan 6

Anyone who didn't swear loyalty to him is a target.

Donald Trump has escalated his ongoing feud with the FBI, taking aim at former Director Christopher Wray. This attack follows closely on the heels of the indictment of Wray’s predecessor, James Comey, creating a dramatic situation where Trump is now targeting two former FBI directors he pushed out.

The whole issue centers on the long-running “fedsurrection” conspiracy theory, which suggests that federal law enforcement secretly instigated the January 6 attack. This absurd narrative, which has been consistently promoted by some Republicans and right-wing outlets, tries to paint the rioters as victims who were entrapped by nefarious FBI personnel. However, the claims were decisively discredited late last year by a detailed four-year investigation from the Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz.

According to NBC, the Horowitz report found no evidence that the FBI had undercover employees in the protest crowds or at the Capitol, and concluded that no FBI official was responsible for instigating the attack. Despite the clear findings, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to launch his salvo after a conservative online outlet claimed to have a new “bombshell” about the FBI and January 6.

Trump is at it again, against another FBI Director

Trump specifically claimed, “It was just revealed that the FBI had secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax”. He went on to directly challenge Wray’s previous statements on the matter, writing, “This is different from what Director Christopher Wray stated, over and over again! That’s right, as it now turns out, FBI Agents were at, and in, the January 6th Protest, probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as ‘Law Enforcement Officials.'”

The former President concluded his statement by connecting Wray to his indicted predecessor, saying, “Christopher Wray, the then Director of the FBI, has some major explaining to do. That’s two in a row, Comey and Wray, who got caught LYING, with our Great Country at stake. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA AGAIN!”.

The details presented by Trump are completely fictional, as the FBI personnel who went to the Capitol arrived after the assault began to assist the Capitol Police, which is neither new nor controversial. In fact, an official report said the FBI’s role was “not the proper role of FBI agents,” but that they were “sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared”. Also, it was Trump’s own MAGA members who called for the killing of Capitol police during the riots, not the FBI trying to do anything wrong.

The current FBI Director, Kash Patel, even released a clarification pushing back against the conspiracy theory. He stated that the agents were “sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared by Metro Police – something that goes against FBI standards”. This was before he brought before Congress, defending himself as well.
