Donald Trump goes after his imaginary ‘menace to U.S. National Security’ – and signs his name to the threat

The President of America, ladies and gentlemen!

President Donald Trump publicly asked Microsoft to fire Lisa Monaco, the company’s new president of global affairs, saying she puts national security at risk. Trump wrote about this on Truth Social on Friday. Monaco worked as deputy attorney general under former President Joe Biden. She joined Microsoft in July but has now become a target of Trump’s anger because of her role in investigations about the president during his first term.

Monaco was deeply involved in federal investigations into Trump’s actions related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and how he handled classified documents. She held the second-highest position at the Justice Department. Trump took away Monaco’s security clearance earlier this year. He did the same thing to other former political opponents, including Biden himself.

In his Truth Social post, Trump called Monaco “corrupt and totally deranged” and wrote that “Monaco has been shockingly hired as the President of Global Affairs for Microsoft, in a very senior role with access to Highly Sensitive Information.” He added, “She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government.” The president signed his name at the end of the post. He ended by saying that “Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco.”

Microsoft’s government deals make this a bigger problem

Microsoft has major contracts with the U.S. government. The company provides cloud storage and work software to many federal agencies. Earlier this month, Microsoft agreed to save government agencies $3.1 billion over one year on cloud services. The company said nothing about Trump’s statements.

Monaco has worked in government for many years under Democratic presidents. Before joining Microsoft, she was a top national security helper under President Barack Obama. She later became deputy attorney general from 2021 to early 2025. Between government jobs, she worked as a CNN national security expert. She also worked as a partner at the international law firm O’Melveny & Myers. There, she gave advice to major clients like Exxon Mobil and Apple.

Trump called for Monaco’s firing one day after a federal grand jury charged former FBI Director James Comey. The charges say he made a false statement and blocked a congressional proceeding. The charges come from testimony Comey gave to the Senate in 2020. Comey says he is innocent and never knowingly gave false testimony before Congress. The Trump administration’s Justice Department has been criticized for going after political opponents. Democrats have started formal investigations into what they call a two-level system of justice.

Trump’s move against Monaco is the latest example of the administration going after former officials from past Democratic administrations. Far-right activist Laura Loomer has repeatedly criticized Microsoft for hiring Monaco. After Trump’s Truth Social post, she called on Trump to cancel all of Microsoft’s government contracts.
