While we may be inclined to protect dogs at all costs, sometimes, if an animal poses a danger to others there’s little choice but to euthanize it. One woman on TikTok who was bitten by her friend’s Miniature Pinscher after the canine got spooked by somebody ringing the doorbell found out that the dog had a history of biting, resulting in it having to be put down.
“I didn’t know they were gonna euthanize the dog,” user “tinysparksvixen” says at the start of her video. She then goes on to explain that her friend, the owner of the Minpin, is no longer friends with her as “in her mind, I am the reason her dog was euthanized.”
Dogs are generally seen as beings of pure innocence so the woman’s statement may sound bad, but it’s a little more complicated than it may seem. The woman explains that she had been visiting her friend’s house for the first time and that they had a Miniature Pinscher, which is a small breed of dog. When somebody came to the door, the dog freaked out and ran around the house, running to the woman and biting her on the arm, breaking the skin.
While the friend tried to dissuade her from going to the hospital she ultimately did as who knows what sort of infection she could have gotten from the bite. The doctor was obligated to find out whose dog had bitten the woman and when they checked the dog’s record they found out this was the fourth biting incident. This meant it would have to be euthanized.
The friend blames her
While it’s not exactly the woman’s fault, it’s perhaps understandable that the friend would find it hard to forgive her for her part in the dog’s death. Some of the comments on TikTok suggested the woman should have lied to the doctor, “Why wouldn’t you say it was a dog at the park and it ran off?” Asked one viewer.
Others argued that the woman did the right thing as the dog was a dangerous animal, “honestly you say minpin and nothing else needs to be said” wrote one, “those dogs when they’re bad they’re BAD.” However, many claimed that a bite from a Minpin would not have been bad enough to puncture the skin too deep.
“Tinysparksvixen” admits that after she told the doctor there was nothing she could do to intervene, “They went and they took her dog.” She also admits that she feels terrible about what happened and that if she’d known the dog had temperament issues she might have not gone to the doctor.
