‘I don’t see this working out long-term’: Man ends things after woman’s card declines at Taco Bell and she makes one comment about her dad

A joke turned into a red flag moment.

A woman on TikTok recently shared how her new relationship came to a sudden end after an awkward moment at Taco Bell. Moraea, who posts under the username @monotonechick, told her followers about how a declined card and a joke about her dad led to an unexpected breakup.

According to Bro Bible, the trouble started when Moraea and the guy she had been dating for a few weeks went to get food after working out at the gym. At the Taco Bell drive-thru, she wanted to pay and gave him her card. But when he tried to use it, the card got declined two times in a row. He paid for their food instead, and she felt really embarrassed about what happened. When she looked at her bank account later, she had plenty of money in there. She figured he must have put in her PIN wrong.

A couple of days after that, he asked her to go to breakfast with him. She tried to make the situation less awkward by joking around. She told him she had cash this time from her favorite ATM, meaning her dad. She explained in her TikTok video, that she actually got the money from her father through Cash App and was just trying to be funny. She thought everything went great. But when she got back home, she got a text from him that said “I don’t see this working out long-term.”

That joke really didn’t land well

She was confused and asked him what was wrong. He told her he did not like the joke she made at breakfast. He said he was looking for someone to be with long-term, and he did not want a partner who would see him like an ATM. She told him that was really insensitive and reminded him it was just a joke. She even pointed out that she paid her dad back for that cash.

He ended up calling her to say sorry. He admitted that he probably went too far with his reaction. He told her he can be too judgmental sometimes and should have just asked her what she really meant by the joke instead of assuming the worst.

@monotonechick

turns out he entered my pin wrong and this was all a big misunderstanding. he basically judged me and said I wasn’t financially stable without knowing the whole story #dating #fyp #datingadvice

Even though he apologized, Moraea said she is still worried about their relationship now. She told her followers that she feels scared to act like herself around him anymore because she thinks any little joke might make him want to break up with her again.

In other TikTok videos she posted, Moraea gave more details about the whole thing. She said she likes to split costs 50/50 when dating and does not think guys should have to pay for everything.

Moreae also showed a message from him where he said her joke was a red flag because it made her look bad with money. In the message, he also said he does not have much experience with dating and might have thought about it too much.

People who watched her videos had a lot to say about what happened. Someone named Janeé commented, “gym date? Taco Bell? You paying? What’s going on.” Another person asked, “Why are you paying?”

A user called Hughes1021 wrote, “I would not continue.” Someone else named niccolla said that “the bar is so low,” and Moraea answered back, “your comment is number 777. and yes the bar is very low I’m realizing.”

Studies show that old-fashioned ideas about who pays on dates are still pretty common today. A survey from TD Bank found that 84 percent of men say they pay when they go on a first date, while only 6 percent of women do.

The survey also found that 63 percent of men who are in serious relationships usually pay the bill. These numbers show that many people still disagree about money and dating, and how small misunderstandings about finances can mess up new relationships.
