Filmmaker who accused Jeremy Renner of sexual harrasment says they found a ‘peaceful resolution,’ but his lawyer leaves her entire story in ruins

Filmmaker Yi Zhou announced over the weekend that the intense legal fight between her and Marvel star Jeremy Renner had finally reached a “peaceful resolution,” but the actor’s lawyer immediately denied the claim, stating the multi-million dollar lawsuit is absolutely still active. This is shaping up to be a seriously messy situation, and it looks like the legal hostility is far from over.

Zhou, who previously accused the movie and TV star of sending unsolicited sexual images and threatening to call immigration authorities on her, offered an unexpected update on Saturday. She told TMZ that she and Renner had “reached a peaceful and mutually respectful resolution.” She sounded quite official, suggesting that they would be moving forward with their joint projects.

Zhou even released a statement saying they “appreciate everyone who supported a positive outcome and embraced a forward-looking, collaborative path.” However, that wasn’t entirely true. Renner’s lawyer, Marty Singer, quickly delivered a harsh rebuttal, making it clear that the claims of a resolution were completely false. This may mean that Renner will be on the news again but what may be for a counterlawsuit.

Singer told TMZ that there was “no deal reached with Yi Zhou to resolve my client Jeremy Renner’s substantial multi-million dollar claims against her.” Singer didn’t stop there either. He stated that he had “no knowledge why Yi Zhou would fabricate a story that a deal has been made with her.” This is a strong accusation to level against someone, suggesting Zhou’s entire announcement was baseless.

He further pointed out that the filmmaker was notified there was no deal, specifically citing her use of Renner in an animated movie when Renner had only agreed to participate in a documentary. This whole dispute stems from their professional relationship while working on a pair of documentaries, titled Stardust Future and Chronicles of Disney. The 54-year-old Renner and 38-year-old Zhou had been exchanging mutual cease and desist letters for quite some time.

The row includes allegations from both sides that the other repeatedly “threw themselves” at one another and sent explicit messages. Both Renner and Zhou admitted they engaged in a consensual romantic entanglement near the start of their working relationship. Renner claimed he only met Zhou twice for the purpose of the documentary but admitted to a “brief consensual encounter.”

However, Zhou alleged a much darker situation in a series of Instagram posts on November 3. She claimed that Renner first contacted her directly in June and sent “personal and intimate photographs of himself.” She said she believed in his sincerity because he claimed he had been single for a long time and was open to a long-term relationship.

Zhou further alleged that she later received a “string of unwanted / unsolicited pornographic images of himself via DM and WhatsApp.” When she privately asked him to “behave properly, to respect me as a woman and as a filmmaker,” she alleged that the situation escalated dramatically. She claims he responded by threatening to call immigration or ICE on her. That is truly awful for anyone to experience, especially someone dealing with legal troubles and a high-profile dispute.

The legal representative for Renner had previously released a statement saying that all of Zhou’s allegations concerning the unsolicited images and the threat to call ICE are “totally inaccurate and untrue.” Given the lawyer’s recent statement, it seems like we can expect this dispute to going to court in the near future.
