Fox News host Laura Ingraham praised the new food pyramid that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed on Wednesday. But she had to admit that former First Lady Michelle Obama was “right” after noticing a key problem with the plan.
Kennedy and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the new food pyramid earlier that day. The updated version puts protein like red meat, fish, and chicken at the top. It also includes fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats as priorities. Whole grains like bread and cereal are now lower on the list.
According to HuffPost, Ingraham called it “a major MAHA win” on her show The Ingraham Angle. She was talking with Rollins and Kennedy about the new guidelines when the issue came up. Kennedy is leading the “Make America Healthy Again” effort under President Donald Trump.

Rollins explained that eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive. “A big pushback, that’s exactly right Laura, is people will say, ‘Oh, here comes the Trump administration, nanny state, it’s gonna be too expensive’ and ‘What happened to affordability?’ To eat healthy, to have fish or chicken or pork or beef with a side of vegetables, whole grain piece of bread, a glass of whole milk, is right around $3 to $4,” she said.
Ingraham interrupted and said Michelle Obama used to call them “food deserts.” The former First Lady made healthy and affordable food for children a main part of her Let’s Move! campaign during Barack Obama’s time as president. Back in 2010, Ingraham had told Republicans to be “vociferously opposed” to Obama’s campaign.
Ingraham admitted, “I used to kind of poke fun at her for that. Maybe she is right?” Rollins agreed, saying there’s truth to that concern. Ingraham had criticized Obama in 2011 by saying one of her daughters “apparently is not living in a food desert.” Meanwhile, Barack Obama recently criticized progressive Democrats for their approach to political issues.
“OK, so we take it all back,” the right-wing host said. “She’s right.” Critics on social media have pointed out the contradiction for a long time. Conservatives are now supporting Kennedy’s effort to “Make America Healthy Again” after attacking Obama for the same goals.
The backlash against Obama was so strong that CNN made a video montage last year. It showed many Fox News hosts criticizing Obama, including Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity telling her to get her “damn hands” off their French fries.
Obama had even released a “food desert locator” in 2011 to help communities find healthy food options. The former president has remained politically active, including when he spoke against a Trump-backed candidate in recent political battles.
