Donald Trump loves being the center of attention. And, most of the time, he is. Trump has made a habit of appearing at large sporting events, and last year became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.
But just because Trump is the center of attention, that doesn’t mean the attention is positive. At Super Bowl LIX last year, he was roundly booed by the crowd, leaving him looking visibly uncomfortable.
Trump at the Superbowl was soundly booed and hissed. Heard clearly international coverage and commented on in multiple countries.

We already knew Trump was skipping this weekend’s Super Bowl LX, with the official line being that the Santa Clara, California game is “too far away” and that he doesn’t want to watch Bad Bunny and Green Day perform. Trump insisted he wasn’t running scared from a hostile crowd, telling the New York Post, “they like me”.
Evidence suggests otherwise. Zeteo reports that several aides and advisers concluded that if Trump appeared at the game, he’d face booing, jeering, and mockery like ever before. MAGA aides are conscious that footage of Trump being booed in such a manner would go viral, that they would “prefer to avoid” this happening, and that it’s “best to stay away from this one.”
No, they’re uh, saying Boo-rump!
As one Trump adviser confirmed, an audience of 100 million people watching Trump grimace as a stadium full of people booed him is “another thing we don’t want right now.” Another said:
“Whatever [the crowd’s makeup] ends up being, it’s not gonna be a Turning Point USA speech.”
I’m sure it is. Predictions of Trump being booed at Super Bowl LX are on the money. Not only are Trump’s approval ratings in the toilet for innumerable reasons, but Santa Clara is in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the proportion of the crowd intensely hostile to him is going to be much larger.
White House spokesperson Dan Ingle has put up a brave face, arguing that:
“President Trump is working hard on behalf of the American people. If he did attend the Super Bowl, he would receive a warm welcome because America knows he has done more to help this country than any other president in history.”
Uh-huh, sure, Dan.
Expect the fearful president to hole up in Mar-a-Lago for the big game, where he can be confident he’ll only be exposed to fawning praise and brown-nosing from his many cronies, minions, and assorted underlings.
