‘He knew that the animals would attack’: Schoolgirl eaten alive by pigs after being brutally attacked by farm worker

A Russian man has been sentenced to 23 years in a strict regime penal colony after sexually assaulting 17-year-old Milena Shevelyova and leaving her unconscious body to be devoured by pigs.

Igor Zykov, a 42-year-old farm worker, confessed in court to brutally beating his boss’ daughter and leaving her for dead. He had previously been convicted for murder before this most recent horrific crime and was reportedly “consumed by rage” due to a long-running grudge between himself and Shevelyova’s father according to an article from The Sun.

What happened to Milena Shevelyova?

Zykov had allegedly planned to take revenge against his employer by killing his livestock but, upon arriving at the pig pen, discovered Milena feeding the animals. In what has been described as a vodka-fuelled attack, he beat the schoolgirl before sexually assaulting her. 

Speaking to investigators, Zykov claimed that they “got into a fight” and that “went at her with a stick” and also “threw a few punches to her head,” before stealing her phone and running home. Once the ordeal was over Shevelyova was left unconscious and bleeding in the pigsty.

The court heard how the animals, upon smelling the blood, quickly began attacking the young girl, who was powerless to defend herself. She reportedly died from massive blood loss after her femoral artery was torn by a bite.

A Russian news outlet explained that “The man deliberately left the girl to be eaten by pigs, because he knew that the animals would attack the body.”

Igor Zykov’s sentence

Zykov was convicted of murder, violent sexual acts, and theft. He was given a 23 year sentence for his crime. He had previously been convicted of killing his own brother but upon his release he was given a second chance in the form of a job by Milena’s father. Sadly that act of kindness will likely haunt the father for the rest of his life.

Shevelyova’s parents had been away on a shopping trip and grew concerned when their daughter stopped answering her phone. They asked Milena’s 18-year-old boyfriend to check on her and he was the unfortunate one to discover the body. Witnesses claim they saw the young man run out of the barn “vomiting and shouting for help.”

An ambulance was called but Milena Shevelyova was pronounced dead after losing too much blood from her injuries. Her boyfriend later posted online about his girlfriend, writing, “You will forever remain in my heart.” Others who knew Milena described her as “a kind person. Always helping her parents with everything. A truly compassionate child.”
