“Your MAGA base despises you”: Democrat lawmaker’s wry statement proven true as Bondi is slammed by MAGA media

Attorney General Pam Bondi is currently facing a massive wave of criticism. Not from opposition lawmakers, but from some of the most prominent voices in the conservative media landscape. Bondi appeared before the House Judiciary Committee this week to testify about the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The end result was a contentious hearing where she pushed back hard against accusations of a cover-up related to the dead financier, often defaulting to distractions, insults, and rambling. As The Hill noted, her performance and the lack of prosecutions stemming from the case have severely angered many of President Trump’s most vocal supporters.

The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on Democratic lawmakers. During Wednesday’s hearing, Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (D-Ill.) pointed out that Bondi has taken significant heat from the president’s base over her actions. “Your MAGA base despises you because you’re covering up the Epstein file,” García said directly to Bondi. “How ironic.” He noted that after all the controversy, nobody, including Democrats, supports her position.

Considering the immediate backlash, he wasn’t wrong

Some of the harshest reactions came from influential conservative figures, focusing heavily on Bondi’s demeanor during the questioning. Fox News Host Lisa Kennedy pointed out that Bondi came off “like a shrieking Karen.” She lamented the situation, explaining that she wants to be convinced that the people in charge of the federal government are “doing the very best they can with an incredibly talented team.” 

Online influencer Tim Pool, who has a large following on the right, also criticized the DOJ’s approach. Pool stated on his podcast that he thinks they’ve “miserably handled the Epstein files,” and that the American people aren’t “serviced… by this kind of yelling.” He praised Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), for grilling Bondi effectively over the department’s actions.

The criticism wasn’t just about the Epstein case itself; it broadened into ideological attacks. Pundit and Second Amendment activist Dana Loesch blasted the attorney general on her radio show, saying Bondi had “made an a— of herself.” Loesch challenged Bondi, saying, “If you wanna sit here and introduce the Dow into it, let’s go ahead and talk about your positions on red flag laws and universal background checks, AG.”

For those following the saga, this conservative pushback isn’t exactly new. Conservative pundit Megyn Kelly had blasted Bondi last year for humiliating conservative media figures who were buzzing about the files. Her comments came after the Justice Department confirmed Epstein’s death was a suicide and stated there was no so-called client list, a list Bondi had previously claimed was on her desk. 

The saddest reaction from the hearing comes from the victims, with one telling a reporter that she felt Bondi “really dehumanized us today” after the hearing concluded. The scrutiny on the Attorney General and the Justice Department is only intensifying.
