A woman has been arrested at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas after abandoning her dog at a ticket counter and attempting to board her plane despite being denied a boarding pass.
Footage shared by the New York Post shows the woman arriving at the ticket counter with her 2-year-old goldendoodle bouncing around excitedly. When she attempted to check in her bags she was told by the staff at the desk that she would not be able to board the flight with her dog without legitimate service dog documentation.
After some back and forth between the woman and the staff she ties her dog to the JetBlue ticket counter and storms off towards her gate, leaving concerned staff and a confused young dog wondering what is going on. It seems the woman thought she’d just be allowed to ditch her dog and still board the flight, completely ignoring the fact that she had been denied a boarding pass by staff.
Thankfully the staff were dog people (who isn’t) and they comforted the pup while officers searched for the owner.
Actions have consequences
Officers quickly found the owner waiting at Gate D1. When confronted about her actions it quickly became apparent they were dealing with an adult on the verge of a tantrum, an all too common sight in airports and airplanes these days. “I’m gonna throw my bags down because I’m exhausted,” she told officers, to which one man responded, “No, what we’re gonna do is walk you back to where your dog’s at and give you a citation, because you left your dog at the ticket counter.”
The woman then attempted to explain that she had been trying to re-book her ticket and that staff had told her to go to the gate. “So you walk down here? To rebook your flight? And left your dog there?” the disbelieving officer asks. The woman remains adamant that is what staff had told her.
She also suggested that it was alright to leave the dog there as it had a tracking device, ensuring it would be brought back to her.
Thankfully the woman was arrested by officers for her heartless act, she was charged with animal abandonment and resisting arrest. As for her dog, it was brought to a local rescue center. Sadly the woman never returned for it showing that she truly never did care for it in the first place. The dog has since been named “Jet Blue,” a rather fitting (and might I add cool) name.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has since stated that Jet Blue “will soon be placed in a new, loving home,” so maybe it’s for the best the dog’s owner never returned for it.
