The Jeffrey Epstein saga has now reached into some unexpected corners of the United Kingdom. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is currently scrambling to review flight records that could shed light on Epstein’s private jet landings at British military bases. Files have surfaced that suggest Epstein’s private jet touched down at Royal Air Force (RAF) bases, including Marham in eastern England and Northolt, which is closer to London.
While RAF Northolt often sees private jet traffic, it’s pretty unusual for a private plane to land at RAF Marham, a key frontline base. This discovery has prompted the Defence Secretary to order a full review of all military flight records that might relate to Epstein’s flights. Per Reuters, the MoD spokesperson stated that they want to ensure any information connected to Epstein’s horrible crimes is uncovered and given to the proper authorities.
This new military angle comes as British police are already deep into assessing whether Epstein trafficked women through several civilian airports across the nation. Reuters reported that three regional police forces are reviewing information about private flights linked to Epstein, all part of a nationally coordinated effort.
It is staggering that a civilian got access to a military base
These assessments, which aren’t full-blown investigations just yet, were kicked off after millions of documents on the disgraced financier were released by the U.S. government at the end of January. A national coordination group has been set up to help individual police forces dig into Epstein’s connections to Britain or British people. The National Police Chiefs’ Council mentioned they’re working together to understand the potential impact of all these documents.
The Epstein furor has already sent ripples through the British establishment. Reports indicated that incomplete flight logs showed 87 flights linked to Epstein arriving or departing from British airports between the early 1990s and 2018, with “females” sometimes listed among the passengers. The released files also contain numerous references to specific airports like Stansted Airport in London, and dozens of mentions of UK visas.
It’s worth noting that Stansted has stated that private flights aren’t managed by their main terminals. They also pointed out that Border Force is responsible for all immigration and customs checks, as all individuals arriving in Britain are subject to thorough scrutiny under British law.
Beyond the airports, the scandal has already had a major impact in Britain. The latest batch of files, released in January, even led to the brief arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, King Charles’ brother. Peter Mandelson, a former British ambassador to the U.S was fired from his post and later arrested too.
They were questioned over allegations of sharing confidential government documents with Epstein. Both men have denied any wrongdoing and expressed regret over their friendships with Epstein, though they haven’t specifically responded to requests for comment following the recent file releases.
