Donald Trump insists he had no choice but to heavily bomb Iran, saying he was acting to stop an “imminent threat” from Tehran. Oh, okay, you know that would actually make a lot of sense! So, can you tell us what this threat was?
Oh, what’s that? You can’t. Huh. Well, the official White House line, as spouted to reporters on Saturday, is that Iran was about to strike out at US bases. Alternatively, Trump had determined that Iran was enriching uranium. I guess we get the luxury of choosing which excuse we want.
Now it appears that behind closed doors, senior US defence officials have confirmed to congressional staff that absolutely no intelligence existed to indicate Iran was about to make the frankly suicidal move to launch attacks on any U.S. bases or military installations.
🚨 Pentagon: “No intel that Iran was going to strike first”

This means any preemptive attack was not based on any evidence or intelligence.
The US/Israel attacks would therefore be unlawful.
Continuing them is unlawful.
Joining them is unlawful. https://t.co/32ay7C9kFu
Those familiar with the discussions say the Pentagon admits there were “no clear signs” of any aggression from Iran that prompted the bombings. They underline that while Iran’s ballistic missiles were considered to pose a threat to US interests in the Middle East, there was no evidence they were about to be used.
They were coming right at us!
Pete Hegseth has now gone a step further, insisting that Iran “had a conventional gun to our head as they tried to lie their way to a nuclear bomb”. Again, there is no evidence that Iran was anywhere close to developing a nuclear weapon, or even that they wanted one. Even if they were, Trump himself proudly claimed he’d “completely and totally obliterated” any nuclear facilities last year.
Democratic Senator Andy Kim summed up what’s actually happening, saying :
“This is an example of the president deciding what he wanted to do, and then making his administration go and find whatever argument they could make to justify it.”
Senate Intelligence Vice Chair Mark Warner, who is getting classified briefings on what’s going down, confirmed to CNN he had seen nothing to indicate “that Iran was on the verge of launching any kind of preemptive strike against the United States of America.” His opinion is that Trump has “started a war of choice.”
For Trump and his goons, war is indeed a “choice”. Unfortunately, the countless people who will now die don’t get a choice.
