Tucker Carlson is done playing games with Donald Trump after being told he’s not MAGA anymore

President Donald Trump has officially cut Tucker Carlson out of “Club MAGA” after the conservative podcaster publicly criticized the recent U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran. This happened as the Trump administration was working to build public support for the operation, which they have called Operation Epic Fury.

Carlson did not hold back, calling Trump’s decision to attack Iran “absolutely disgusting and evil” when the strikes began over the weekend. He continued on his podcast, saying, “This is Israel’s war. This is not the United States’ war. This war’s not being waged on behalf of American national security objectives, to make the United States safer or richer. This war isn’t even about weapons of mass destruction, nukes.”

According to the Independent, Trump responded sharply, saying, “Tucker has lost his way.” He added, “I knew that a long time ago, and he’s not MAGA. MAGA is saving our country. MAGA is making our country great again. MAGA is America First, and Tucker is none of those things. And Tucker is really not smart enough to understand that.”

Carlson’s calm response signals a complex relationship that is far from over

Despite the harsh words from Trump, Carlson’s reply was calm. He told Oliver Darcy, “There are times I get annoyed with Trump, right now definitely included.” But he also said, “I’ll always love him no matter what he says about me.” Trump has made several eyebrow-raising claims lately, including his bizarre claim about his father’s birthplace.

The Trump administration continued to push its case for Operation Epic Fury. Admiral Brad Cooper, who leads U.S. Central Command, said the operation’s goal is to “eliminate Iran’s ability to threaten Americans.” Trump claimed Iran was rebuilding its nuclear program and planning attacks on U.S. forces before the strikes began.

The meaning of “America First” also appears to be changing. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told Sean Hannity that it now means America will be the “greatest, most unquestioned, unmatched power in the world,” and that its “awesome military might should be used to protect and defend America’s interests” and “defend American lives.”

Admiral Cooper reported that the U.S. has sunk or destroyed more than 30 Iranian Navy ships and “relentlessly destroyed Iran’s air defenses,” adding that the military is working to “systemically dismantle Iran’s missile production capability for the future.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth added, “We have only just begun to fight,” leaving the length of the operation unclear. This military action comes despite Trump saying in his 2024 election victory speech, “I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.”

Recent polling shows that 54 percent of American voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of the situation, with 52 percent believing the U.S. should not have taken military action. Trump has also acknowledged that the Iran war pushing up everyday costs is a real concern for regular Americans.

A separate poll found that 6 in 10 respondents felt Trump lacked “a clear plan for handling the situation,” and 62 percent believed he should get congressional approval before launching more strikes. Right-wing activist Laura Loomer defended Trump and attacked Carlson on social media, writing that he is “actively running interference for the Iranian regime” and calling him “a massive liability to the President.”
