‘I’m going to end this tonight.’: Man starts spraying air freshner inside home, silently plotting revenge for ‘all years of abuse’

Um, we have questions.

What began as a strange scene inside a New Hampshire home — a man walking through rooms spraying Febreze — quickly turned into a violent attack that police say nearly killed two women.

Authorities say Chandler Walden, 29, is now facing multiple attempted-murder charges after allegedly attacking his sister and her friend with a hatchet and a steak knife inside a Londonderry, New Hampshire, home. Investigators say the victims suffered serious injuries but survived the assault and managed to escape the house to get help.

Police responded to reports of a stabbing

Police in Londonderry responded to the home on Chase Road shortly before 9 p.m. on March 15 after receiving reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found two women outside the residence suffering from multiple stab wounds while bystanders attempted to help them until paramedics arrived.

According to investigators, the victims had returned to the home that evening following an earlier argument between Walden and his sister. When they entered the house, they reportedly found Walden walking through the residence, spraying Febreze air freshener.

The situation escalated moments later, when one of the victims told police that Walden suddenly began yelling before attacking his sister. The second woman attempted to intervene and was also assaulted during the struggle.

During the attack, a witness reported hearing Walden make a statement suggesting the violence was intentional. According to police records, viewed by Law & Crime, he allegedly said: “After all the years of abuse, it ends tonight. I’m going to end this tonight.”

Authorities have not publicly confirmed what Walden was referring to when he mentioned “years of abuse,” and investigators have not provided additional details about the claim.

His sister reportedly told investigators there was no history of physical abuse, suggesting his statements during the attack may have been related to a mental health crisis.

The victims were treated for injuries

Both victims suffered multiple injuries, including stab wounds and cuts to their heads and upper bodies. Despite the severity of the attack, the women were able to flee the home and seek help outside.

Emergency crews transported them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Local reports indicate the women survived the assault and are expected to recover, though they required medical treatment for several serious wounds. Neighbors in the normally quiet neighborhood told local media they rushed to assist the victims while waiting for emergency responders.

Police located Walden inside the home shortly after arriving on scene and took him into custody without incident. Officers reported observing blood on his hands and neck when he was arrested.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the residence and said they recovered the suspected weapons — a hatchet and a steak knife — from a trash can in Walden’s bedroom.

Walden now faces a series of felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder. He is also charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and several counts of second-degree assault, including a domestic-violence-related charge involving serious bodily injury.

Walden is currently being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections. Reports indicate he was ordered held without bail following his arrest. A probable cause hearing in the case is scheduled for March 25, when prosecutors are expected to present evidence supporting the charges against him. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review the circumstances surrounding the attack.
